What’s Your Specialty?

pexels-photo-433267.jpegAnybody who knows me at all probably thinks that’s a trick question. Of course, writing and producing videos and television programming is near and dear to my heart. It’s what I know best and, next to theatre, what I love doing best.

But with 20+ years in public relations and marketing, I have also enjoyed writing across many other platforms and becoming familiar (most of the time extremely so) with subjects ranging from the flooring industry to food ingredients. Over the past few years, I have written extensively on medical topics for the Association of Family Practice Physician Assistants (AFPPA), Georgia Association of Physician Assistants (GAPA) and Association of Cardiovascular Physician Assistants (APACVS).

One of the real perks of working with these associations is getting to know physician assistants (PAs) across our nation and providing public education about the services they provide. People need to know about them because it’s becoming more and more likely they’ll see a PA or another mid-level provider for medical care due to the ever-widening physician shortage. The good news is this is a group of well-educated and knowledgeable medical professionals. The better news is that they have a dedication to patient wellness and education that you don’t often see in today’s medical environment. GAPA’s focus on patient education has been most recently expressed through the “Get Fit with GAPA” health initiative, including the “Rx for Fitness” program with the Georgia State Parks and a series of health watch bulletins to help patients fight the obesity epidemic. Working on this program was food for my creative soul but was so much more. It fed a need to do something that might help others focus on improving their lives. It certainly caused me to focus more on improving my own health and fitness goals.

Opportunities like this really are special, and I’m so glad this one came my way. If the fates are kind, I hope to work on another project like this in the future.
